About the opportunity
Our client, a well-established global manufacturer, is seeking an experienced Direct Commodity Buyer to lead the resins category across three manufacturing sites in North America.
This is a high-impact role with ownership of an annual spend of approximately $50M-$100M, offering the chance to shape commodity strategy, drive meaningful savings and work closely with operations, engineering and program teams.
What you'll do:
- Own the direct resins commodity (e.g. engineered and commodity resins, compounds) across three North American sites, managing an annual spend of $50M-$100M
- Develop and execute commodity and supplier strategies aligned with budget, cost and program objectives
- Monitor resin markets, feedstock pricing and index movements, and communicate trends, risks and forecasts to stakeholders
- Negotiate pricing, index-based agreements, payment terms, delivery requirements and long-term supply contracts with domestic and international suppliers
- Lead RFQs, bid comparisons and cost evaluations, and award business in line with company policy and approval levels
- Identify and qualify suppliers based on cost, quality, delivery, capacity and technical capability, and drive supplier consolidation and cross-site synergies
- Deliver cost-reduction targets and lead continuous improvement initiatives
- Manage supplier performance, escalations and corrective action, and support supplier development activities
- Partner with cross-functional and program teams throughout the project lifecycle, providing sourcing input on supplier selection, timing and commercial terms
- Provide accurate reporting on pricing, supplier performance, delivery status and savings
What you bring:
- 5-8 years of purchasing, procurement or commodity management experience, ideally with direct materials and resins or plastics
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Economics or a related field preferred (equivalent experience considered)
- Automotive or high-volume manufacturing experience strongly preferred
- Proven track record negotiating complex contracts and commercial agreements with global suppliers
- Strong understanding of resin markets, index pricing and commodity risk management
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities across sites
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP/purchasing systems; SAP experience preferred
- Working knowledge of contract law and commercial purchasing practices
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach with internal customers
