Job summary

Vertical Mechanical Group Inc. is seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to lead startup and commissioning across commercial HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and BAS systems.

You will manage startup technicians, coordinate schedules with milestones, and collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, and third-party agents to ensure successful project delivery. You will oversee functional testing, close-out documentation, warranty support, and continuous improvement of procedures while

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, or construction-related field.
• Minimum 8 years in MEP systems commissioning/testing.
• 5+ years leading field technicians across multiple projects.
• Hands-on experience with HVAC, mechanical, and plumbing startups and testing.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and sequences of operations.
• Willingness to travel between project locations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage startup and commissioning technicians across commercial projects.
• Coordinate startup schedules with milestones and general contractor requirements.
• Develop startup reports, pre-functional checklists, and functional testing procedures.
• Direct technicians during functional testing with third-party commissioning agents.
• Review drawings, specs, and control sequences to ensure proper operation.
• Inspect field performance, troubleshoot issues, and resolve challenges.
• Take ownership of commissioning close-out activities on assigned projects.
• Improve commissioning procedures, reporting tools, and testing processes to boost efficiency.
