Job summary

The Jonus Group is seeking a highly skilled Commercial Surety Underwriting Specialist to join our underwriting team in the Mid-Atlantic region. This role focuses on risk assessment, strategic decision-making, and building strong relationships with clients and colleagues.

You will analyze financial statements and credit data to guide underwriting decisions, oversee risk quality, and contribute to profitable growth within the SE/Mid-Atlantic territory.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years in commercial surety underwriting.
• Progression toward AF SB, CPA, or RPLU preferred.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities.
• Demonstrated integrity, accountability and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret business reports (credit checks, bank agreements, financial statements) to support underwriting processes.
• Oversee risk selection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability for the assigned branch office.
• Assess risk quality in line with company guidelines and standards.
• Review underwriting decisions and provide recommendations for extending surety credit (terms and conditions).
• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and communicate effectively with clients and team members.
• Ensure timely and informed decisions while upholding integrity.
• Coach and develop team members to achieve objectives.
• Utilize independent judgment to support business goals.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline
