Job summary

First Chicago Insurance Company is seeking a Commercial Underwriter to join our team. The Commercial Lines Underwriter will work with the Commercial Account team to provide high-level service, develop agency relationships, and underwrite new and renewal business for profitability.

The role requires knowledge of coverage, rating plans, state requirements, and strong communication skills. Expect a book up to $7MM in written premium and potential guidance to junior underwriters.

Qualifications

• Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint; strong written and oral communication skills.
• Organized, detail oriented, and able to multi-task effectively.
• Ability to work independently and in collaboration with a team.
• Experience: Commercial Lines underwriting with focus on Auto (Taxi, Livery, Para Transit) and GL (Contractors/OL&T).
• Knowledge of rating plans, state requirements, and carrier billing systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal business focusing on profitability and maintain agency relationships.
• Handle a book of business up to $7MM in Written Premium.
• Enter new business policies, endorsements, and renewals with proper documentation.
• Provide timely responses to agent inquiries and communicate claims issues to agents.
• Monitor loss ratios and risk profiles; recommend terminations or re-underwriting.
