Goochland County is hiring a Combination Commercial Inspector I to perform inspections across commercial, electrical, energy, fuel gas, mechanical, plumbing and accessibility systems throughout construction. The role requires interpreting plans, advising on code-compliant methods, and coordinating inspections to avoid delays.

You will work with customers, engineers, and contractors, maintain inspection records, and assist the Deputy Building Official in project meetings.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma with skilled trades experience or equivalent.
• Associate degree or trade certificate preferred.
• Must attain Combination Commercial Inspector certification within 18 months and Erosion and Soils Control Inspector within three years.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license with good driving record.
• Extensive knowledge of trades including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fuel gas, building construction and fire protection systems.

Responsabilités

• Perform inspections of the highest level of complexity for commercial buildings and apartments.
• Proactively examine completed work for code compliance with the Uniform Statewide Building Code.
• Review and interpret construction plans for thorough inspections of building trades.
• Advise customers on code-compliant, cost-efficient methods.
• Monitor construction progress to ensure timely inspections.
• Note violations and follow up on corrective actions for compliance.
• Establish and maintain relationships with project customers.
• Respond to inquiries regarding code requirements and inspection status.
• Review and verify third-party reports for accuracy and compliance.
• Organize inspection reports and enter data into the county system.
• Plan inspection routes for efficient use of county time and resources.
• Communicate with the Deputy Building Official and report issues promptly.
• Represent the Deputy Building Official in project-related meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
