Job summary

Larson Maddox seeks a senior lawyer to draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts supporting site development, construction, and business operations. The role involves advising internal stakeholders on legal and business risks across real estate, energy, compliance and governance areas.

Qualified candidates have a J.D. from an ABA-accredited school, California Bar membership, and 5+ years of contracting experience.

Qualifications

• J.D. and CA Bar as minimum licensing requirements.
• Minimum 5 years of legal experience with commercial contracting.
• Ability to advise on real estate, energy, utilities and related matters.
• Strong communication, organization and problem-solving skills in fast-paced settings.
• Experience with multiple practice areas including development, construction, energy and CRE.

Salary: USD150000 - USD200000 per annum

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Contracts

• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts supporting site development, construction, and business operations.
• Manage a variety of commercial agreements, including vendor, supply, technology, marketing, and confidentiality agreements.
• Maintain contract templates, playbooks, and tracking processes for key obligations and renewals.

Business Partnership & Risk Management

• Advise internal stakeholders on legal and business risks, escalating complex issues as needed.
• Support a broad range of legal matters, including real estate, compliance, governance, privacy, and employment.
• Assist with insurance program administration and outside counsel management.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and support additional legal projects as needed.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
• 5+ years of legal experience with significant commercial contracting expertise.
• Active California Bar membership (or ability to promptly register as California in-house counsel).
• Experience supporting development, construction, land use, energy, utilities, or commercial real estate matters.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills in a fast‑paced environment.

Preferred

• Experience with California land use, development, and construction matters.
• Background supporting energy, retail, QSR, fuel, or other site-intensive businesses.
• Experience across multiple practice areas, including development, construction, energy, utilities, and commercial real estate.
• Experience in a high‑growth or venture‑backed company.
• Familiarity with contract lifecycle management (CLM) or matter management systems.
