Job summary

Hyliion is seeking an Advanced Engineer, Combustion Aerodynamics in Milford, OH to lead combustion test campaigns and analyze data to inform reactor and oxidation system design. The role collaborates with mechanical, thermal, and performance teams to translate test results into actionable hardware improvements.

You will work in a lab environment, conduct emissions testing, and contribute to regulatory certification programs while engaging in data-driven design decisions and technical reviews.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering required; master's preferred.
  • 5–10 years of engineering experience in combustion testing or development.
  • Experience in aerospace, power generation, or industrial combustion environments.
  • Strong knowledge of flame chemistry, fuel/air mixing, NOx/CO/UHC emissions.
  • Hands-on lab instrumentation setup and calibration experience.
  • Ability to run 1D reactor models using CANTERA or CHEMKIN.
  • Experience with CFD tools for combustion or fluid dynamics.
  • Proficient with 3D CAD software (NX preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Execute combustion aerodynamics test campaigns with instrumentation setup.
  • Support development/validation of reactor and oxidation system and emissions measurement.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory facilities for combustion system development.
  • Apply 1D reactor network models to correlate simulations with data.
  • Use CFD tools to analyze aerodynamic and thermal behavior of geometry.
  • Support emissions testing and regulatory reporting (EPA, CARB, SCAQMD).
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to inform system design decisions.
  • Participate in technical reviews and present data summaries.
  • Assist in design review of combustion hardware and supplier interactions.
