Job summary

City of Roanoke seeks a Combination Inspector II to review building plans and inspect new construction, additions and alterations for compliance with City and State codes. Duties include field inspections of building, mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems, and issuing permits where appropriate.

The role requires an Associate's degree or equivalent and 4+ years in general building construction, plus Virginia certification as Combination Inspector I/II or equivalent.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in building-related fields.
• Three to five years related experience in installations, repair, maintenance or inspection of building systems.
• Four years related experience in general building construction.

Responsibilities

• Review building plans and inspect all new construction, additions and alterations for code compliance.
• Inspect building, mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems to ensure current code requirements.
• Investigate appeals and conduct field inspections for special problems or complaints.
• Issue stop-work orders, provide testimony, and issue permits as appropriate.
• Consult with architects, engineers and the public on technical issues and code interpretations.
