Job summary

City of College Station is seeking a Combination Building Inspector II to perform skilled inspections of residential and commercial projects under general supervision. You will enforce building codes, review plans, and provide guidance to owners and contractors.

Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, Texas driver’s license, and the ability to obtain ICC residential energy plans examiner and commercial energy inspector certifications, plus a Texas plumbing license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and two years of related construction experience
• Valid State of Texas Driver’s license
• Knowledge of carpentry, building construction, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work
• Ability to obtain ICC residential energy plans examiner/inspector certification
• Ability to obtain ICC commercial energy inspector certification
• Ability to obtain Texas Plumbing Inspection License
• Journeyman/Master licensure preferred
• Building-related certifications from model code organizations

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance of building codes by performing inspections in new construction, alterations, and demolitions
• Inspect on-site electrical, building, and mechanical work for conformance with City codes
• Prepare and issue code violation notices and advise on corrective actions
• Review and interpret approved construction plans and monitor construction activities
• Provide code interpretations to contractors and the public about building requirements
• Prepare inspection reports and maintain files of inspections, permits, and citations
• Inspect on-site plumbing, gas, and lawn irrigation system work
• Perform related duties as assigned
