Senior Collections Manager

Cooley is seeking a Senior Collections Manager to join the Accounting team.

Position summary:

Under the general direction of the Director of Revenue, the Senior Collections Manager is responsible for managing the assigned collections team, ensuring compliance with company policies, and working with the Director of Revenue to achieve department goals. Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing A/R aged inventory and coordinating with partners or attorneys
  • Serving as the initial contact for significant client accounts to monitor receivables
  • Directing team members to contact clients and follow up as needed
  • Identifying new business on clients with delinquent receivables and coordinating with attorneys for resolution
  • Referring matters to Bankruptcy partners for collection
  • Reporting on A/R trends to management
  • Managing write-offs and transfers to suspense accounts
  • Monitoring payment plans and retainers
  • Preparing collection projections
  • Applying unallocated and trust funds appropriately
  • Coordinating with other professionals to ensure process flow
  • Developing collection policies and procedures
  • Preparing client and partner analyses in Excel
  • Managing year-end close processes
  • Understanding accounting systems and supporting software initiatives
  • Supervising and mentoring direct reports
  • Supporting employee development and participating in HR processes
  • Performing other duties as assigned
Skills and experience:

Required:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, iManage, and other firm applications
  • Advanced Excel and reporting skills
  • Ability to work extended hours and travel as needed
  • 7+ years of relevant financial experience, including 2+ years in management
  • Independent work ethic and mentorship ability
  • Knowledge of collections processes and Elite 3E or Elite Enterprise

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Law firm experience
  • Supervisory experience

The annual pay range is $140,000 - $190,000, depending on location and experience.
