Job summary

Medix is seeking a Senior Coding Educator to join a large health system. The role focuses on professional fee coding audits, physician documentation reviews, coding compliance, and provider education.

The ideal candidate has expertise in physician coding and auditing, and will work with providers to review findings, educate, and improve documentation and coding accuracy. This remote role requires residency in Illinois, Indiana, or Wisconsin, with occasional onsite education.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of physician/outpatient coding and auditing experience.
• Epic experience is required.
• Active RHIA, RHIT, CCS-P, CCS, or CPC certification required.

Responsibilities

• Review physician documentation for professional fee coding and billing accuracy.
• Audit progress notes, operative reports, pathology reports, and other medical records.
• Review and assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes according to coding guidelines and payer requirements.
• Conduct physician coding and documentation audits and communicate findings to providers and Practice Managers.
• Provide education on E/M documentation, coding requirements, compliance, and specialty-specific guidelines.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM with flexibility

Employment Type: Direct Hire

Salary: $74,568–$115,585 annually

Position Overview

We are hiring a Senior Coding Educator to join a large, multi-specialty health system. This position will focus on professional fee coding audits, physician documentation reviews, coding compliance, and provider education.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in physician coding and auditing and is comfortable working directly with providers to review findings, provide education, and improve documentation and coding accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Review physician documentation for professional fee coding and billing accuracy.


• Audit progress notes, operative reports, pathology reports, and other medical records.


• Review and assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes according to coding guidelines and payer requirements.


• Conduct physician coding and documentation audits and communicate findings to providers and Practice Managers.


• Provide education on E/M documentation, coding requirements, compliance, and specialty-specific guidelines.


• Identify coding trends, documentation gaps, compliance risks, and appropriate reimbursement opportunities.


• Research CMS, payer, and regulatory guidelines to answer coding and billing questions.


• Develop coding education materials, tip sheets, and resources for physicians and staff.


• Collaborate with Billing, Operations, Denials Management, and other teams to address coding and documentation concerns.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in physician/outpatient coding, auditing, reimbursement, chart review, or coding compliance.


• Strong professional fee coding experience.


• Epic experience required.


• Active RHIA, RHIT, CCS-P, CCS, or CPC certification required.


• Health system experience strongly preferred.


• Experience providing coding or documentation education to physicians strongly preferred.


• Strong communication skills and ability to confidently discuss audit findings with providers and leadership.
