Job summary

Qualifications

• Completion of secondary education or equivalent (high school diploma or GED).
• Must possess one or ability to obtain more than one of the then current and valid State of Ohio Certification(s): (a) building inspector, residential building inspector, mechanical inspector, plumbing inspector, and/or residential plans examiner OR (b) Electrical Safety Inspector.
• Must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio driver’s license and must remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.

Responsibilities

• Conduct technical inspections on industrial, commercial, and residential buildings to ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
• Supervise and guide inspection activities under the Chief Building Official’s supervision.
• Develop and maintain detailed records of inspection activities; prepare reports and respond to complaints.
• Communicate with the public, developers, contractors, and owners regarding codes and permits.
• Meet safety requirements, maintain licenses/certifications, and perform other duties as assigned.
