Project Description

The project requires developers for app refactoring or migration as part of an IDMS to DB2 conversion. Data migration will be handled by a separate team, but developers will receive cross-reference information about the IDMS to DB2 conversion to understand the impact on applications.

Conversion plan: Approximately 750 IDMS records in our schema since 2018, divided into 15 implementations. We are completing the design phase and are about to start coding the 13th implementation.

Each IDMS record/structure is reviewed to determine how to replicate its functionality in DB2, following design guardrails to simplify code conversion.

Responsibilities

• Ensure programs are still executing; if not, prepare them for removal.
• Generate a specification/cross-reference document.
• Convert programs to behave the same way, using a different data source.
• Perform smoke testing in the Q9 Clone environment.
• Request and complete peer and DBA walkthroughs.
• Unit test the programs and document the results.

Skills

Must have

• Experience in COBOL programming, including writing and debugging code.
• Knowledge of Assembler language.
• Familiarity with tools like ISPW, Eclipse, Topaz, Abend Aid, File Aid, and Expedite.
• Basic Linux commands: logging in, reading log files, SFTP, moving data, etc.
• Experience in C programming.

Nice to have

• Experience with Expeditor, ISPW, FileAid.
• Experience with IDMS.
