Job summary

VIAVI Solutions Inc. in Santa Rosa, CA is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to lead coating platform ownership, driving uptime, yield and cycle-time improvements through hands-on work and cross-functional collaboration.

You will apply 8D/CAPA, PFMEA, DOE, and Lean Six Sigma to optimize processes, run experiments, and mentor the floor during critical builds. 7+ years in thin-film deposition with a BS are required; MS preferred.

Qualifications

• BS in Physics, Materials Science, or Engineering; MS preferred.
• 7+ years in manufacturing/process engineering in thin-film vacuum deposition.
• Hands-on ownership of a production coating platform and processes.
• Ability to isolate faults on complex electro-mechanical and vacuum equipment.
• Knowledge of PFMEA, CAPA, 8D, SPC, and DOE; Lean and Six Sigma projects.

Responsibilities

• Support coating platforms and processes; track KPIs and improve uptime, yield, and cycle time.
• Own tool issues on the floor; implement 8D/CAPA until closure.
• Provide production support during critical builds and tool recoveries.
• Maintain SPC and trend reporting; run designed experiments.
• Lead Lean and Six Sigma projects to reduce scrap and increase throughput.
• Collaborate with Design Eng, R&D, Quality, and Operations on new coating designs.
