About the Role:
As a Senior CNC Machinist, you will lead by example in operating, setting up, and optimizing CNC machinery to produce high-precision components. This advanced-level role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and leadership capabilities. You’ll drive process improvements, troubleshoot complex machining challenges, mentor junior machinists, and uphold our commitment to quality and efficiency on the production floor.
- Independently perform complex machine setups, changeovers, and tooling setups using indicators and optical tool setters
- Make advanced programming edits at the machine to enhance cycle time, part quality, and efficiency
- Operate multiple CNC machines simultaneously, ensuring part accuracy and consistency
- Perform advanced part inspections using tools such as CMM and conduct in-process inspections per SPC and work instructions
- Monitor and adjust tooling offsets; escalate as needed for quality or tooling issues
- Replace worn or broken tools and maintain accurate tooling records
- Track productivity via hour-by-hour boards and communicate any downtime or concerns promptly
- Lead troubleshooting for machining and tooling issues, working with maintenance and engineering teams
- Coordinate scrap disposition and support root cause analysis for nonconforming parts
- Mentor and train lower-grade operators, reviewing documentation and modeling best practices
- Maintain proficiency in at least seven (7) machining cells and support across cells to meet production targets
- Ensure proper program selection, part fixturing, and CNC validation during changeovers
- Support workflow and machine operation across all machining cells
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and escalate issues when necessary
- Contribute to Kaizen and other improvement events focused on minimizing waste and boosting performance
- Maintain 6S standards for safety, cleanliness, and organization
- Demonstrate professional behavior and teamwork; assist and collaborate across departments
- Accurately document production output, issues, and part/material discrepancies
- Support testing of new tools and equipment and assist with process validations
- Comply with all ISO standards and quality procedures
What We’re Looking For:Education, Skills, Experience, and Knowledge:
- Minimum 5 years of CNC machining experience, including setup, programming, and process optimization.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to read and interpret technical blueprints
- Proven experience performing complex setups and machining a variety of parts with minimal supervision
- Ability to make advanced programming edits directly at the machine
- Proficient in the use of precision measurement tools, including CMM
- Experience operating at least seven (7) different machines, including two non-similar types (one CNC-controlled)
- Knowledge of tooling offsets, complete setups, and fixture changeovers
- Demonstrated low scrap rate and material efficiency over the past six months
- Strong understanding of part defects, machine operations, and tooling applications
- Ability to troubleshoot part defects and determine necessary tooling solutions
- Capable of documenting part shortages, reporting production progress, and communicating clearly across shifts
- Excellent communication skills for training and shift-to-shift handoffs
- Strong focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement
- Must be able to stand and work for 85-100% of the workday
