A leading company in the firearms industry is seeking a Weekend Shift Lead - CNC Machinist to oversee production and ensure quality standards. The role involves leading a team, operating CNC machinery, and maintaining a clean and efficient work environment. Ideal candidates will have significant machine operation experience and a strong attention to detail.
The working Weekend Shift Lead - CNC machinist will coordinate priorities with 1st and 2nd shift to productively operate various cells and machines. Taking direction from the Production Manager, lead and instruct shift workers on assignments, providing setups, changeovers, training and troubleshooting issues. Production on a turning center producing a variety of high precision, high quality workpieces (currently for the firearms industry) will round out the responsibilities during the shift. This work, conducted in a newly remodeled, bright, temperature-controlled environment, utilizes updated equipment and the most up-to-date technology. The shift lead is responsible for consistency in production, quality inspection, cell/machine maintenance, and training as well as all work performed on the shift.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Leads and instructs shift workers on assignments, providing setups, changeovers, training and troubleshooting issues with ultimate responsibility for all work performed on the shift.
* Utilizing documentation, selects appropriate tooling, gauging and supplies to prepare cells for production
* Performs machine setup and tool change, selecting appropriate tooling based on materials
* Operates equipment efficiently, monitoring machine performance and work piece quality to ensure specifications and production rates are being met.
* Performs quality checks as specified per work piece to ensure proper tolerances are held
* Prepares cell performance documentation reports/checklists
* Cleans and packages work pieces for effective material handling
* May operate material handling equipment as needed to deliver stock to cell or stage completed product for shipment
* Communicates with others in department to ensure the smooth flow of work
* Maintains a clean working environment through machine cleaning, tool organization, chip clearing, cutting oil maintenance, etc.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Minimum of 5 years machine operation experience, preferably CNC lathe/turning setup experience

* Flexibility - willingness to operate other equipment, perform work outside job duties when asked and work overtime hours when required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
* Regularly lifts up to 20 pounds unassisted. Occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds unassisted. Occasional use of overhead cranes for lifts greater than 50 pounds.
* Regularly stands for entire shift (8-10 hours)
* Regularly bends, stoops, reaches, climbs and moves.
* Regularly exerts up to 10 pounds of force and frequently exerts up to 25 pounds of force to move objects.
* Work environment is bright and temperature controlled.
* The nature of the work involves contact with various metals and oils.
