Job summary

UCI Health in Orange County seeks a Nursing Assistant to support professional and technical nursing staff by performing vital signs, assisting with hygiene and elimination, and keeping the unit clean and safe. The role includes stocking supplies and operating hospital equipment as directed, plus light clerical tasks and other duties as assigned.

Successful candidates will have basic medical terminology knowledge, English fluency, and BLS certification; weekend and holiday work is required.

Qualifications

• Understanding of basic medical terminology.
• Must be able to read, write and speak effectively in English.
• Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
• Must be Certified Nurses Assistant or enrolled in accredited nursing prog. with completion of at least 1 clinical semester.
• Demonstrated patient care experience, preferably in an acute care setting.
• Nursing Assistants hired prior to May 2010 who did not possess certification as a Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) are not required to obtain it at this time.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in a therapeutic way.
• Current BLS certification upon hire (must be issued by the AHA).
• Approved workplace violence responder training program within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Take and record vital signs and assist with patient hygiene and elimination.
• Maintain unit cleanliness and safety and stock supplies.
• Operate hospital equipment as directed.
• Perform routine clerical tasks and assist with other related duties as assigned.
