Job summary

Tennant Company is seeking a Senior CMM Technician to develop, maintain, and generate CMM programs to inspect production materials and components. You will review blueprints to define inspection criteria and collaborate with engineering to ensure precision and quality.

The role emphasizes training others and leading metrology activities in a lean manufacturing environment. Responsibilities include troubleshooting CMM programs, maintaining SOPs, and driving continuous improvement in inspection

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a related technical field preferred or 5–10 years of related experience
  • Knowledge of ANSI/ASME, ISO, and GD&T
  • Familiarity with Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques
  • Proficient with PC-DMIS
  • Experience with PolyWorks preferred
  • Knowledge of data analysis techniques (histograms, pie and bar charts, control panels)
  • Applies mastery level of inspection skills
  • Uses inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, thread gauges) to measure parts accurately
  • Adapts/drafts advanced procedures and equipment for special inspection needs
  • Reads engineering drawings and interprets GD&T usage
  • Researches and implements new inspection software and equipment
  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships; adapts communication style
  • Uses PC/inspection software and calibration software to track tools
  • PC skills navigate SAP production reporting
  • Ability to perform First Article Inspections (FAIs) using setup tools

Responsibilities

  • Serve as SME for CMM programming and metrology
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Purpose / Scope

The Senior Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) Technician develops, maintains, and generates CMM programs used to inspect and verify production materials and components. Reviews blueprints and specifications to establish correct inspection criteria following best practices.

General Responsibilities
  • Reviews blueprints and specifications to establish correct inspection criteria following best practices
  • Determine program requirements based on design and engineering requirements
  • Conduct quality control inspections
  • Use precise measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers
  • Ensure precision machine is in working condition and properly calibrated
  • Ensure proper code lines are encoded into the machine
  • Provide process improvement based on insight to change the programming and calibration of product
  • Creates drawings and plans of product parts for accurate replication during manufacturing process
  • Collaborates with Manufacturing and Quality Engineers in interpreting CMM output to evaluate parts quality and machining processes and resolve production quality issues
  • Trains team members on manual inspection equipment and proper measurement techniques
  • Supports special projects and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned
  • Develops, updates, and maintains standard operating procedures (SOPs) for inspection processes
  • Troubleshoots CMM programs, inspection equipment, and measurement issues with minimal escalation
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for CMM programming, inspection methods, and metrology tools; provides training and guidance to others
  • Performs additional duties as assigned
Required Experience & Education
  • Associate degree in a related technical field preferred, or 5-10 years of related experience
  • Knowledge of ANSI/ASME, ISO, and GD&T
  • Familiarity with Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques
  • Proficient with PC-DMIS
  • Experience with PolyWorks preferred
  • Knowledge of basic data analysis techniques (e.g., histograms, pie and bar charts, control panels)
  • Applies mastery level of inspection skills
  • Uses appropriate inspection tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, thread gauges) to accurately measure part features
  • Adapts and/or drafts advanced procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and equipment to meet special inspection needs
  • Advanced ability to read engineering drawings and interpret, apply, and train others on proper GD&T usage
  • Researches, recommends, and implements new inspection software and equipment
  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships; adapts communication style to different audiences and personalities
  • Efficiently uses inspection software/equipment and calibration software to track pneumatic and metrology tool status
  • PC skills sufficient to navigate production reporting systems (SAP)
  • Ability to perform basic First Article Inspections (FAIs) using setup and manual inspection tools

Tennant Co. reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualifications of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity. The salary range reflects both entry into the role and future growth. Total Compensation = Base Salary + Benefits
