Job summary

Garmin International seeks a Senior CMF Engineer - Plastics to lead CMF material strategies for multiple Garmin product lines. The role develops and implements material solutions from concept through product launch, ensuring performance, manufacturability, and quality across markets.

Based in the Greater Kansas City area, Cary, NC, or Portland, OR, with leadership of CMF projects and mentorship of engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, or related field and minimum 5 years experience
• Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, CMF technologies including plastics, silicones, metals, coatings
• Experience in materials characterization, experimental design, data analysis, and failure investigation
• Ability to evaluate material performance across product categories and identify failure modes
• Interest in emerging materials, manufacturing technologies and design trends

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical resource for material categories, advising on selection, performance, color, and finish
• Develop and implement CMF solutions from concept through product launch
• Plan and communicate CMF explorations, evaluations, and testing
• Identify risks, conduct root cause investigations, resolve quality/manufacturing issues
• Develop and validate material verification test methods and support color matching
• Maintain CMF standards, processes, and best practices
• Stay current on materials and manufacturing trends and assess new CMF opportunities
• Contribute to project planning with timelines, milestones, and technical recommendations
• Share CMF knowledge across organization and mentor junior engineers
• Collaborate cross-functionally during design reviews and with suppliers/partners
