Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Senior Cloud Systems Administrator in Herndon, VA to support mission-critical systems in a SCIF environment. The role requires hands-on Linux and AWS administration, security hardening, and incident response across governance, risk, and operations teams.

The successful candidate will manage Linux servers, perform backups and DR, apply STIG controls, and collaborate with security, network, and development teams to maintain availability and performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an area relevant to the position with 8+ years of relevant experience; or Master’s with 6+ years; or PhD with 3+ years. An extra 4 years may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Active TS/SCI or SCI eligibility and active polygraph.
• Ability to work full time in a SCIF.
• Active Security+ certification or another current IAT II/III-level certification.
• Strong hands-on Linux admin experience with CentOS/RHEL/Oracle Linux.
• Practical experience in an AWS environment.
• Experience using AWS console to provision and monitor servers.
• Experience with backups, disaster recovery, and performance tuning.
• Experience with STIG hardening and vulnerability remediation.
• Strong troubleshooting, scripting, and log review skills.
• Ability to support Tier 1/2 technical and customer-facing communication.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux systems supporting mission-critical apps.
• Support Linux environments including CentOS, RHEL, Oracle Linux.
• Provision, monitor, and support servers in AWS.
• Manage cloud infrastructure via AWS console (compute, storage, backups, monitoring).
• Perform backups, DR activities, and performance tuning.
• Install, patch, and upgrade OS, apps, and tools.
• Apply security configurations and remediation per STIG.
• Review audit logs and perform root cause analysis.
• Support Tier 1/2 troubleshooting for operations.
• Collaborate with network, security, devs, and stakeholders.
• Manage resources for CPU, disk, storage, and responsiveness.
• Administer user accounts and security settings.
• Support security audits, vulnerability scans, and compliance.
• Create documentation (SOPs, guides, procedures).
• Evaluate performance and propose improvements.
• Occasional after-hours/weekend availability for mission-critical apps.
• Full-time SCIF work with core-hours.
