Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Senior Solutions Architect to lead the design and delivery of cloud-native enterprise software. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
• 5+ years designing and delivering cloud-native enterprise software in production.
• Strong understanding of AWS, Azure, or GCP and cloud-native patterns.
• Proven experience leading software engineering teams across SDLC.
• Expertise in Java and Spring (Boot/Cloud/Security).
• Experience with Vue.js front-end in enterprise contexts.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive end-to-end cloud-native architecture for enterprise systems emphasizing scalability and security.
• Lead and mentor cross-functional development teams; foster collaboration and technical excellence.
• Apply Agile principles to structured delivery cycles and manage technical debt.
• Design and implement software using Java, Spring, Vue.js, and Groovy while maintaining architectural integrity.
• Collaborate with product owners, stakeholders, and DevOps to translate requirements into designs.
• Establish engineering standards, patterns, and best practices across CI/CD, testing, observability, and security-by-design.
• Evaluate cloud platforms, frameworks, and third-party integrations to support goals.
• Facilitate architecture reviews, design sessions, and proof‑of‑concept work to de-risk decisions.
• Serve as escalation point for production issues; drive root-cause analysis and timely resolution.
• Communicate architectural vision and trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
