Job summary

SmarterDx is seeking a Security Engineer to own detection engineering and security operations. You will write and tune detections in Panther, manage the SIEM, and lead cloud security operations in AWS.

Collaborate with the Staff Security Engineer to translate strategy into production, with room to grow into deeper detection engineering and security automation. You will work fully remote within the United States, partnering on incident response, runbooks, and security design reviews while

Qualifications

• 4+ years in security engineering with AWS and cloud infrastructure experience.
• Experience writing and tuning detections in Panther or similar SIEMs.
• Experience investigating security alerts from raw logs to defensible conclusions.
• Ability to design and deliver medium-complexity security work independently.
• Code fluency in Python or TypeScript to automate tasks.
• Familiarity with CloudTrail, VPC Flow Logs, GuardDuty, AWS Config.
• Solid AWS network security fundamentals and Terraform experience.

Responsibilities

• Write, tune, and maintain detections in Panther across cloud, container, and SaaS sources.
• Run the SIEM day-to-day: onboard log sources, manage detection quality, reduce false positives.
• Triage and investigate security alerts from logs to conclusions; execute incident-response playbooks.
• Run cloud security operations in AWS; tighten configurations and fix misconfigurations.
• Own and improve GitHub organization security controls as code.
• Collaborate on network and infrastructure security; onboard telemetry and monitor egress.
• Help build and extend security-automation tooling; write runbooks and RFCs.
• Support Vulnerability Management triage and exploitability assessments as needed.
