Job summary

CHAMP, a cloud-native software provider for Motor Vehicle Agencies, is seeking a Software Reliability Engineer (Mid to Senior) in Cleveland onsite four days a week to strengthen the reliability, resilience, and performance of our applications and integrations.

You’ll work with Java, RESTful services, and system integrations, anticipate failures, improve observability, and collaborate with product teams to deliver scalable, observable systems and fast, secure operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• 3+ years designing, testing, and implementing software applications, systems, and/or services.
• Experience with RESTful APIs and/or message-based interfaces.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Anticipates problems and implements automated safeguards.
• Prefers automated safeguards and permanent engineering solutions over repeated manual intervention.
• Regularly asks, "What happens if this fails?"
• Sees dependencies and downstream consequences that others may overlook.
• Investigates unusual behavior before it turns into an outage.
• Looks beyond the immediate symptom to uncover the underlying cause.
• Understand that a successful API response does not necessarily mean the entire business transaction succeeded.
• Think about edge cases, unexpected inputs, dependency failures, timing issues, and scalability during development.
• Balance technical reliability with practical business needs.
• Provide analysis and insights for infrastructure capacity planning.
