The ideal candidate has strong experience with Java, RESTful services, APIs, and system integrations and naturally thinks several steps ahead. Rather than simply responding when something breaks, this person will identify potential points of failure, recognize patterns and risks, and implement solutions to eliminate, mitigate, and/or alert before those risks become customer-impacting problems.

This role will work closely within the team, and with product software engineers, architects, product management, and other technology partners to build reliable systems that are observable, scalable, resilient, and can be efficiently operated and maintained.

By joining CHAMP, you will be an integral team member with many opportunities for personal growth. We have a start-up working environment that is flexible, collaborative, and welcoming. You will be joining us on a growing and evolving Product Support engineering team and will have direct input on our application design, architecture, and operations.

  • Strong understanding of RESTful architecture, APIs, web services, and system integrations.
  • Experience troubleshooting applications or integration issues across multiple systems.
  • Strong understanding of HTTP concepts, including status codes, authentication, request/response patterns, timeouts, and error handling.
  • Experience working with distributed applications or service-based architectures.
  • Ability to analyze logs, application behavior, and system dependencies to diagnose technical issues.
  • Understanding of software reliability concepts such as:

Fault tolerance

Retry and timeout strategies

  • Investigates unusual behavior before it turns into an outage.
  • Looks beyond the immediate symptom to uncover the underlying cause.
  • Understands that a successful API response does not necessarily mean the entire business transaction succeeded.
  • Think about edge cases, unexpected inputs, dependency failures, timing issues, and scalability during development.
  • Can balance technical reliability with practical business needs.
  • Provide analysis and insights for infrastructure capacity planning.
