Job summary

Best Buy is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead cloud microservices initiatives within the IHOF team, enabling in-home delivery, installation, and repair services. You will modernize architectures toward cloud-native, event-driven designs while ensuring resiliency, observability, and cost efficiency.

The role emphasizes hands-on development, rigorous testing, and adherence to engineering best practices, with a hybrid schedule requiring on-site presence in Richfield, MN several days a week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of software engineering experience.
• 2+ years building event-driven architecture.
• 2+ years with microservice patterns and event-driven design.
• 1+ years of cloud-native development.
• Experience with application management and/or Agile product delivery.
• Experience with testing and CI/CD automation tools.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for detailed low level design, building, testing and deploying microservices.
• Hands on coding of features built in a Distributed CQRS, Event Sourced, Microservice Architecture using Java Spring.
• Use of Agentic AI as core development/coding tool.
• Extensive experience developing and maintaining enterprise applications with a strong emphasis on code quality and engineering best practices.
• Experienced in implementing resilient systems through fault tolerance, retry mechanisms, circuit breakers, monitoring, and graceful degradation.
• Strong advocate for maintainable software design, including SOLID principles, clean architecture, refactoring, and technical debt management.
• Proficient in establishing automated testing strategies (unit, integration, and end-to-end testing) to ensure reliability and regression prevention.
• Experienced in conducting code reviews and driving engineering standards.
• Focused on building scalable, supportable solutions that minimize operational risk and improve long-term maintainability.
• Demonstrates creativity and takes initiative in solving complex problems.
• Works independently under project objectives.
