Job summary

Open LMS is seeking a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to scale a multi-tenant Moodle hosting platform on AWS. You will own architecture and tooling, spanning Terraform modules, Puppet manifests, and Python automation, with a focus on deep Linux systems and distributed design principles.

Qualifications

• Extensive production AWS experience including EC2, RDS and S3.
• Experience authoring Terraform modules for production infrastructure.
• Proficient with Puppet modules for fleet management.
• Strong Python skills for writing production daemons.
• Deep Linux (Ubuntu) knowledge including Apache/Nginx and PHP-FPM.
• Understanding of distributed systems concepts and tradeoffs.

Responsibilities

• Designing, building, and maintaining AWS infrastructure using Terraform.
• Writing and maintaining Puppet modules to configure EC2 fleets.
• Maintaining Python-based automation and tooling for operations.
• Operating distributed service discovery and configuration (etcd).
• Managing and tuning a multi-tier caching strategy (Varnish, Redis/OPcache).
• Running and scaling observability stack (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki) and on-call rotations.
• Evaluating distributed storage options as the platform evolves.
• Improving deployment workflows and release processes.
• Collaborating on API contracts and operational tooling.
• Participating in incident response and platform reliability improvements.
