Amazon Web Services (AWS) HWEngS is seeking a Senior Cloud Hardware Development Engineer to drive end‑to‑end hardware/software integration for servers. You will own product cycles from concept through production and operation, collaborating with internal teams, suppliers, and partners to ensure high quality, performance, and cost efficiency.

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent, or 5+ years of relevant technical experience.
  • 5+ years of server‑level design experience for compute, storage, accelerator, or other complex products.
  • 5+ years of experience leading ODMs and suppliers in product development and manufacturing.
  • Experience developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
  • Experience in board and server root‑cause analysis and resolution.

Job description

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Hardware Engineering Services (HWEngS) owns the new product development (NPI) and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, supporting data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment to keep the cloud running. This role focuses on designing, developing, validating, and launching next‑generation servers and hardware components that will serve over one million customers worldwide.

Senior Cloud Hardware Development Engineer (CHDE)

As a member of the Specialized Platforms and Servers team, you will architect and build hardware/software integration for servers, collaborating with service teams, external suppliers, and AWS cross‑functional teams. You will own end‑to‑end product cycles from concept through production and operation, ensuring high quality, performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Integrate hardware and software components to build servers, support data center operations, and enable rapid scaling.
  • Define and refine product requirements, design specifications, schematics, and analysis plans.
  • Lead cross‑organizational teams and interface with internal developers, suppliers, and external partners.
  • Develop functional block diagrams, test plans, monitoring plans, and deployment strategies.
  • Improve total cost of ownership, quality, reliability, performance, and serviceability.
  • Operate at the full technology stack: from silicon to firmware to software control plane.
  • Guide teams and delegate responsibilities while using high judgment to resolve complex issues.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent, or 5+ years of relevant technical experience.
  • 5+ years of server‑level design experience for compute, storage, accelerator, or other complex products.
  • 5+ years of experience leading ODMs and suppliers in product development and manufacturing.
  • Experience developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
  • Experience in board and server root‑cause analysis and resolution.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in complex product development such as servers, network switches, or highly integrated devices.
  • Expertise in early product definition and feature trade‑off analysis.
  • Skills in thermal, mechanical, power, firmware/software, reliability, and sustaining engineering.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams from concept to production.
  • Proficiency in scripting, debugging, and Linux operation.
  • Experience deploying and operating hardware and applications across large data centers.
  • Experience leading hardware and software development engineering teams.
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles and technical depth requirements.

  • USA, CA, Cupertino – $183,000.00 – $247,600.00 USD annually
