Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a senior engineer to own and lead the design and development of server products. You will work with customers to understand needs, architect scalable solutions, and collaborate with hardware, software, and manufacturing teams to bring servers into data centers.

You will oversee post-launch reliability, diagnose complex issues, and drive improvements across compute, storage, and rack systems for large-scale deployments.

  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures.
  • Experience in server technologies such as thermal, mechanical, power, and signal integrity.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities
  • Own and lead the design and development of server products utilizing a wide range of design and manufacturing partners.
  • Work closely with customers to understand technical needs and business goals, architect solutions that deploy at scale.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including component, firmware, test, qualification, and integration engineers to bring servers to the data center.
  • Oversee the fleet of servers after launch, monitoring quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead technical solutions for complex compute, storage and/or accelerator server and rack system architectural challenges.
  • Own end‑to‑end system reliability, proactively identifying and resolving deficiencies before customer impact.
  • Design and implement solutions to address system‑level issues at large scale.
  • Decompose complex server system problems (testability, reliability, diagnostics) into deliverable tasks and features.
  • Apply expertise across hardware, software, system design, x86 architecture, processes, and operations.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, manufacturing, supply chain and product management teams.
  • Develop and implement diagnostic tools and monitoring solutions for production systems.
  • Debug complex system failures in time‑sensitive settings.

Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures.
  • Experience in server technologies such as thermal, mechanical, power, and signal integrity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years experience with design and manufacturing processes.
  • 5+ years experience leading ODMs and other suppliers in product development and manufacturing.
  • In‑depth expertise in one or more server technologies (e.g., thermal/mechanical design, high‑speed bus design, signal integrity, failure analysis, server components such as CPU, NIC, FPGA, GPU, SSDs, drives, BIOS, BMC, and networking).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
  • 10+ years of hardware development focused on system/server development in compute and/or storage server architecture for large‑scale applications.
  • Expertise in early product definition and feature trade‑off analysis.
  • Experience with server validation and root‑cause analysis.
  • Experience with deploying and operating hardware and applications across large data centers.
  • Proficient scripting, debugging abilities, and Linux operation commands.
  • Experience leading hardware and software development engineering teams.

Compensation

Base salary range varies by location.
• USA, CA, Cupertino – $183,000.00 – $247,600.00 annually
• USA, WA, Seattle – $159,200.00 – $215,300.00 annually
