Job summary

Tharseo IT is seeking a senior cloud engineer to support secure cloud modernization on a DoD Air Force program. You will design, build, and run cloud infrastructure with a primary focus on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), and work across AWS and Azure where needed. This is a hands-on role in a regulated DoD environment.

This is a remote role. Candidates must hold an active Secret clearance, a current Security+ CE certification, and a current OCI certification at submission.

Qualifications

• Active Secret clearance required.
• 10+ years of cloud engineering, architecture, or infrastructure experience.
• Hands-on OCI design and operation in production.
• Current OCI certification (Architect Associate or Professional).
• Kubernetes production experience.
• Terraform or IaC skills.
• CI/CD and DevSecOps experience.
• Strong cloud networking, IAM, HA and DR knowledge.
• Experience with RMF, NIST, FedRAMP, or FISMA.
• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

• Design secure, scalable OCI-centric cloud architectures in a multi‑cloud setup (OCI/AWS/Azure).
• Build and manage Kubernetes platforms, including installation and upgrades.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD and DevSecOps pipelines with automated security checks.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code with Terraform across OCI and other clouds.
• Lead migrations from on‑prem to OCI with minimal downtime.
• Architect high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Design cloud networking and hybrid connectivity (VCNs, subnets, VPNs, FastConnect).
• Apply DoD/public sector security controls (IAM, encryption, zero trust, STIG).
• Support Oracle workloads (Autonomous DB, Exadata) and data platforms.
• Collaborate with DBAs, developers, security teams, and stakeholders; provide technical leadership.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Tharseo IT is seeking a senior cloud engineer to support secure cloud modernization on a DoD Air Force program. You will design, build, and run cloud infrastructure with a primary focus on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), and work across AWS and Azure where needed. This is a hands-on role. You will architect solutions, then build them, automate them, and keep them running in a regulated DoD environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Cloud Architecture: Design and implement secure, scalable, and high-performance cloud architectures, primarily on OCI, within a multi-cloud environment that includes AWS and Azure.
• Kubernetes Platforms: Build and manage Kubernetes platforms, including installation, upgrades, lifecycle management, and troubleshooting. OKE experience is a plus.
• DevSecOps: Build and maintain CI/CD and DevSecOps pipelines with automated security scanning, patching, and monitoring.
• Infrastructure as Code: Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code with Terraform across OCI and other cloud platforms.
• Migration: Lead migrations from on-premises data centers and other clouds to OCI with minimal downtime.
• Resiliency: Architect highly available, fault-tolerant, and disaster recovery solutions across cloud platforms.
• Networking: Design cloud networking and hybrid connectivity, including VCNs, subnets, DRGs, load balancers, FastConnect, and VPN.
• Security and Compliance: Apply security best practices aligned to DoD and public sector standards, including IAM, encryption, key management, zero trust, and STIG hardening.
• Data Platforms: Support compute, storage, and database solutions, including Oracle workloads such as Autonomous Database and Exadata.
• Governance: Help define governance models, landing zones, and cloud operating frameworks.
• Optimization: Monitor and optimize performance, availability, and cloud spend.
• Collaboration and Leadership: Work closely with DBAs, application teams, security teams, and government stakeholders. Provide technical leadership and support pre-sales efforts as needed.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Active Secret clearance or higher.
• 10+ years of experience in cloud engineering, cloud architecture, or infrastructure engineering.
• Hands-on experience designing and running production workloads on OCI.
• Current OCI certification, such as OCI Architect Associate or Professional.
• Hands-on Kubernetes experience in production environments.
• Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
• Strong knowledge of cloud networking, hybrid connectivity, identity and access management, and high availability and disaster recovery.
• Experience with security and compliance frameworks such as RMF, NIST, FedRAMP, or FISMA.
• Strong Linux skills and experience supporting enterprise application workloads.
• Clear communication and documentation skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Additional years of experience in lieu of degree will be considered.

Experience in one or more of the following areas is a plus:

• DoD program experience, especially Air Force.
• SCCA landing zones or DoD cloud security architecture.
• Oracle Kubernetes Engine (OKE) and service mesh such as Istio.
• STIG implementation and vulnerability remediation.

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Advanced OCI certifications, such as OCI Architect Professional, Multicloud Architect, or DevOps Professional.
• CISSP or other advanced security certifications.
• Oracle technologies such as RAC, Data Guard, and Autonomous Database.
• Scripting in Python or Bash.
• FinOps or cloud cost optimization experience.
• Experience supporting Oracle SaaS platforms such as ERP, HCM, or Fusion.
