Job summary

Talan is seeking a Senior Software Engineer - AWS / Python to support a key client in energy trading. You will design, develop, deploy, and support secure, scalable cloud apps and data services focusing on pre-trade workflows, market data, pricing, and analytics on AWS. Hybrid work in Houston with visa sponsorship options for TN/E-2.

Responsibilities include building cloud-native apps, backend services in Python, IaC, CI/CD, security, performance optimization, and mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• 10+ years designing, building, and maintaining high-throughput data pipelines with Python/SQL.
• 5+ years hands-on with major cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) including S3, Glue, Redshift, Data Factory, BigQuery.
• Strong experience with CI/CD, Git, production support, observability, and incident management (AWS Glue env).
• Experience designing APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with Docker and container orchestration (ECS, EKS).
• IaC using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation; AWS cert preferred.
• Bachelor degree in Computer science, Engineering, Finance or Quantitative finance

Responsibilities

• Build and support cloud-native applications, APIs, microservices, and event-driven solutions on AWS.
• Develop backend services and automation in Python.
• Design services handling market data, pricing, analytics, and pre-trade workflows.
• Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation.
• Build and maintain CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and observability.
• Apply cloud security and secure software-development best practices.
• Optimize application performance, reliability, scalability, and AWS costs.
• Lead technical discussions, code reviews, and architecture reviews.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
