Talan in Houston, TX is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specialized in AWS and Python to design, develop, deploy and support secure cloud applications for pre-trade, market data, pricing and analytics. The role emphasizes scalable data pipelines, APIs, microservices, and IaC with Terraform/AWS CDK/CloudFormation.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of data engineering and 5+ years on major cloud platforms, plus strong CI/CD, observability, and mentoring skills. Hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• 10+ years designing, building, and maintaining high-throughput, reliable ETL/ELT data pipelines using Python and SQL.
• 5+ years hands-on with AWS/Azure/GCP including S3, Glue, Redshift, ADF, BigQuery.
• Strong CI/CD, Git, production support, observability, and incident management (AWS Glue environments).
• Experience designing APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with Docker and container orchestration (ECS, EKS).
• IaC experience using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation; AWS cert preferred.
• Bachelor degree in CS/Engineering/Finance or Quantitative finance

Talan is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - AWS / Python to support a key client in the energy trading industry.

The role focuses on designing, developing, deploying, and supporting secure, scalable cloud applications and data services supporting pre-trade, market data, pricing, and analytics. AWS is the primary cloud platform and Python the main development language.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and support cloud-native applications, APIs, microservices, and event-driven solutions on AWS.

Qualifications

10+ years of experience designing, building, and maintaining high-throughput, reliable ETL/ELT data pipelines using Python and SQL.

5+ years of hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including services such as AWS S3, Glue, Redshift, Azure Data Factory, and BigQuery.

Strong experience with CI/CD, Git, production support, observability, and incident management, including AWS Glue environments.

Experience designing and developing APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.

Experience with Docker and container orchestration platforms, including ECS and EKS.

Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation; AWS certification preferred.

• Bachelor degree in Computer science, Engineering, Finance orQuantitative finance

Nice to Have

• Experience in energy trading, commodities, market data, pricing, or financial markets.
• Microsoft Azure experience (Alternatively AWS)
• Athena, or Redshift.
• C#/.NET or React or Angular.
