Job summary

Talan is seeking a Senior Software Engineer - AWS / Python to design, develop, deploy, and support cloud applications and data services for a key energy-trading client in Houston. This hybrid role requires at least 3 days onsite weekly and offers visa sponsorship under TN/E-2 where eligible.

You will build cloud-native systems, implement IaC, lead architecture discussions, and mentor junior engineers while maintaining security, performance, and cost efficiency on AWS.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience designing, building, and maintaining high-throughput ETL/ELT data pipelines using Python and SQL.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including AWS S3, Glue, Redshift, Azure Data Factory, and BigQuery.
• Strong experience with CI/CD, Git, production support, observability, and incident management, including AWS Glue environments.
• Experience designing and developing APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with Docker and container orchestration platforms, including ECS and EKS.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation; AWS certification preferred.
• Bachelor degree in Computer science, Engineering, Finance orQuantitative finance
• Nice to Have: energy trading, Azure, Athena/Redshift, C#/.NET or React/Angular.

Responsibilities

• Build and support cloud-native applications, APIs, microservices, and event-driven solutions on AWS.
• Develop backend services and automation in Python.
• Design services handling market data, pricing, analytics, and pre-trade workflows.
• Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation.
• Build and maintain CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and observability.
• Apply cloud security and secure software-development best practices.
• Optimize application performance, reliability, scalability, and AWS costs.
• Lead technical discussions, code reviews, and architecture reviews.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
