Job summary

Northern Trust is seeking a Cloud Data Platform Engineer to design, implement, and operate a scalable cloud-based data platform enabling analytics and AI workloads across Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, and AWS.

You will drive automation, platform standardization, and self-service capabilities with governance and security baked in, partnering with architects, product owners, and application teams to accelerate innovation and ensure reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 7+ years of experience in data/cloud/platform engineering.
• Hands-on with Azure or AWS; strong cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks).
• Proven DevOps experience including IaC and automated deployment.
• Experience building data pipelines with Azure Data Factory/Synapse, Airflow, dbt, Kafka.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, operate, and improve cloud-based data platform services and infrastructure for analytics and AI workloads on Databricks, Snowflake, Azure and AWS.
• Build scalable Lakehouse architecture and implement CI/CD, IaC, and configuration management.
• Develop platform services, automation, and self-service onboarding and governance.
• Design and maintain GitHub-based CI/CD pipelines for provisioning and deployment.
• Create reusable data workflows, monitoring, and automation for data ingestion and processing.
• Collaborate with architects, data scientists, and engineers to define standards and roadmaps.
