Job summary

Picarro, based in Santa Clara, California, seeks a Senior Software Engineer to own substantial portions of our cloud software and data platform—from architecture to production operations.

Design services, make architectural decisions, and ensure reliability while using AI-assisted tooling. You will mentor engineers and collaborate with product teams to translate ambiguous requirements into reliable software.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience and ownership of production systems end to end.
• Strong full-stack or backend depth with Python, Go, TypeScript, or similar, plus hands-on data-intensive systems experience.
• Comfort with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, and CI/CD with modern observability tooling.
• Experience using AI coding assistants productively in a professional workflow.
• Track record of moving projects from prototype to production with minimal oversight.
• Experience building software as a core product at a software company, R&D lab, or tech-focused org.

Responsibilities

• Design and build core services and features across the cloud and data platform, including APIs, data models, and UI where applicable.
• Own architectural decisions, tradeoffs, and long‑term maintainability.
• Leverage AI coding tools in engineering workflows with sound judgment for trust and verification.
• Build and maintain data pipelines for sensor/instrument data at scale with data quality in mind.
• Ensure production health with monitoring, alerting, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
• Mentor junior engineers on system design, engineering practices, and delivery.
• Partner with product managers and domain experts to translate ambiguous requirements into shipped software.
