Job summary

Picarro, located in Santa Clara, CA, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own design, development, and delivery of major software components for our analytical instrumentation platforms. You will drive features from concept to deployment, mentor peers, and elevate engineering practices.

You will work on gRPC microservices, CI/CD enhancements, and robust test coverage in Linux environments, with a team of highly skilled engineers and opportunities for technical leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related major is required.
• 6+ years of hands-on coding experience, with a minimum of 4 years in Python and strong C++ (C++17 preferred) background.
• Experience with distributed messaging platforms (gRPC, ZeroMQ, MQTT, Kafka, REST APIs) is required.
• Solid knowledge of asynchronous communication patterns (Publish/Subscribe) and ProtoBuf/JSON Schema familiarity.
• Experience with UNIX/Linux systems including service integration and package management.
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases and time-series databases.
• Proficient with Git-based workflows, JIRA, Confluence, and build systems.
• Unit testing with PyTest or GTest.

Responsibilities

• Architectural development of system-level software for analytical instrumentation platforms.
• Independently scope, prioritize, and deliver features from requirements through deployment.
• Design and build robust interfaces for gRPC microservice applications and cross-team integration.
• Create and maintain tests and extend CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
• Diagnose and resolve complex software defects and production issues with root cause analysis.
• Contribute to release planning, sprint planning, and software releases with effort estimates.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers to uphold coding standards and design patterns.
