Illumina is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to design, build, and scale data products on our cloud lakehouse, powering analytics, reporting, and AI/ML across Illumina. We value strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and data modeling, plus a solid grasp of distributed systems and modern cloud platforms.

This senior individual‑contributor role involves end‑to‑end ownership across domains like Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Quality, including mentoring engineers on our global team.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional data engineering experience building and scaling data products on cloud platforms like Databricks and Snowflake.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL with data modeling expertise.
• Experience with Delta Lake and/or Apache Iceberg, Parquet, and data governance practices.

Responsibilities

• Translate domain needs (SAP, Manufacturing, Quality) into scalable data products.
• Design, build, and scale end-to-end data products on Databricks and interoperating with Snowflake.
• Develop reusable Python frameworks for ingestion, transformation, validation, and publishing.
• Design data models (relational, dimensional, lakehouse) and build distributed pipelines with Spark and open formats.
• Embed data quality, governance, and monitoring (Unity Catalog, RBAC, PII handling, SLA adherence).
• Adopt AI in data and analytics workflows and mentor engineers across a global team.
