Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking an experienced Cloud Infrastructure Architect to design, implement, and maintain scalable cloud solutions across AWS, Azure, GCP, or VMware Cloud. The role requires strong virtualization, containers, and security expertise, plus hands-on automation with Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet.

Responsibilities include leading projects, mentoring staff, defining standards, and optimizing cost and security.

Qualifications

• Minimum seven (7) years of related system administration and/or systems engineering experience.
• Experience designing, implementing, and managing cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, GCP, or VMware Cloud.
• Strong understanding of virtualization, containers, microservices, and serverless architectures.
• Experience with Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet for automation/orchestration.
• Networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, and firewalls.
• Security best practices for cloud environments including IAM, encryption, and compliance.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical leader and mentor to team members.
• Articulate and present solutions to project teams, management, and executives.
• Take the lead on large projects and complex changes.
• Design, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure following best practices.
• Configure and deploy cloud services (VMs, storage, networks, security).
• Collaborate to define cloud architecture standards.
• Monitor, optimize performance, availability, and security.
• Automate deployment and management tasks with scripting/tools.
• Perform security assessments and implement protections.
• Troubleshoot cloud infrastructure and applications.
• Stay current with cloud computing trends and innovations.
• Provide guidance to teammates on cloud initiatives.
• Document configurations and procedures for knowledge sharing.
• Design disaster recovery and backup plans.
• Monitor usage and costs; identify and implement cost-saving strategies.
