Job summary

PACS is seeking a Senior Clinical Risk Manager to lead risk management initiatives, promote patient safety, and reduce organizational exposure. You will partner with clinical, operational, legal, compliance, and quality leaders to identify and mitigate risks across the organization.

You will use data trends and RCAs to implement proactive solutions, develop dashboards, and guide leadership on risk mitigation and regulatory readiness. This role requires strong communication and strategic thinking.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a healthcare field and 7+ years in healthcare risk management.
• 7+ years in healthcare with clinical risk management, patient safety, or quality roles.
• Experience investigating complex clinical events and performing RCAs.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and risk management principles.
• Excellent communication to executives and leadership.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Senior Clinical Risk Manager is responsible for leading clinical risk management initiatives designed to promote patient safety, reduce organizational risk, and support high-quality care across the organization. This role partners closely with clinical, operational, legal, compliance, and quality leaders to identify, assess, investigate, and mitigate clinical risks and adverse events.

Position Summary

The Senior Clinical Risk Manager is responsible for leading clinical risk management initiatives designed to promote patient safety, reduce organizational risk, and support high-quality care across the organization. This role partners closely with clinical, operational, legal, compliance, and quality leaders to identify, assess, investigate, and mitigate clinical risks and adverse events.

The Senior Clinical Risk Manager serves as a subject matter expert and strategic partner to clinical and operational leadership, providing guidance on complex clinical risk matters, regulatory requirements, incident response, and risk-reduction strategies. This position uses data, trends, and root-cause analysis to identify opportunities for improvement and develop proactive solutions that strengthen patient safety and reduce organizational exposure.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the identification, assessment, investigation, and management of clinical risk events, including serious adverse events, patient safety concerns, and other high-risk clinical situations.
• Conduct and facilitate comprehensive event reviews, root cause analyses (RCAs), and other structured investigations to identify contributing factors and opportunities for improvement.
• Partner with clinical and operational leaders to develop corrective action plans and risk mitigation strategies and monitor effectiveness through completion.
• Provide consultation and guidance to leaders and team members regarding clinical risk, patient safety, documentation, disclosure, escalation, and event management.
• Identify emerging clinical risk trends through analysis of incident data, claims information, regulatory findings, quality metrics, and other relevant sources.
• Develop dashboards, reports, and presentations that communicate clinical risk trends, key findings, and recommended actions to senior leadership.
• Support the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of clinical risk management policies, procedures, standards, and programs.
• Collaborate with Quality, Compliance, Legal, Clinical Operations, Nursing, and other key stakeholders to ensure an integrated approach to patient safety and organizational risk.
• Provide risk management support related to regulatory surveys, audits, investigations, and corrective action plans.
• Evaluate high-risk processes and clinical practices and recommend controls designed to reduce patient harm and organizational exposure.
• Support the management and evaluation of potential and actual professional liability claims, as appropriate, in partnership with Legal and other stakeholders.
• Monitor changes in federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, and industry practices related to clinical risk and patient safety.
• Develop and deliver education and training for leaders and clinical teams on clinical risk management, event reporting, patient safety, and risk-reduction practices.
• Promote a culture of transparency, accountability, continuous improvement, and proactive risk identification.
• Serve as a resource and mentor to other risk, quality, and clinical team members.
• Lead or participate in enterprise-wide clinical risk and patient safety initiatives and special projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelors degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Risk Management, Quality, or a related healthcare field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in healthcare, including significant experience in clinical risk management, patient safety, quality, clinical operations, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience investigating complex clinical events and conducting root cause analyses or similar structured reviews.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare risk management principles, patient safety practices, regulatory requirements, and clinical operations.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex information, identify trends and root causes, and translate findings into practical risk-reduction strategies.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate sensitive and complex issues effectively with clinical and executive leaders.
• Strong judgment, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage multiple complex and sensitive matters simultaneously while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
• Demonstrated ability to influence outcomes and drive change across functions without direct authority.

Preferred

• Masters degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field.
• Registered Nurse (RN) or other relevant clinical licensure.
• Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) or comparable professional certification.
• Experience supporting multi-site or multi-state healthcare organizations.
• Experience within post-acute care, skilled nursing, long-term care, or other complex healthcare delivery environments.
• Experience working with professional liability claims, regulatory investigations, or litigation support.
• Experience using clinical risk, incident reporting, quality, or data analytics platforms.
