Job summary

University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) invites applications for CPAESS Scientist III to advance sub-seasonal to seasonal forecasts. The role focuses on applying AI/ML methods and ensemble post-processing to improve extreme climate event predictions.

You will lead stakeholder engagement and co-develop impact forecasts with partners in the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa, and other regions, with bilingual English/French proficiency expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum a Bachelor of Science degree and 8 years related experience, or a Master’s degree and 4 years related experience, or a PhD in a scientific discipline.
• Proficient in applying forecasting methods and data analysis.
• Experience engaging with stakeholders across regions is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Designs and executes scientific investigations or analyses using established and emerging methods.
• Develops tools, models, or methods to support data collection and analysis workflows.
• Performs detailed analysis and interpretation of data to improve forecasts and understanding.
• Leads or contributes to project components with technical direction across collaborators.
• Authoring or co-authoring publications, technical reports, and proposals.
