Job summary

University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) invites applications for the CPAESS Scientist III position to support NOAA's Climate Prediction Center (CPC) at NCEP under the NEWS program. The role leads advanced forecasting methods, including AI/ML and ensemble post-processing, to improve sub-seasonal to seasonal predictions of extreme climate events.

You will serve as a primary liaison with partners in the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa, and other regions, co-developing impact

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree with 8+ years related experience OR Master’s with 4+ years, or PhD in a scientific discipline.
• Experience with forecast workflows including model output processing and verification.
• Ability to communicate complex scientific information to diverse audiences in English and French.

Responsibilities

• Designs and executes scientific analyses to address research questions.
• Develops tools, models, or methods for data collection, processing, and evaluation.
• Collaborates across disciplines and mentors less experienced staff.
• Author or co-authors publications, reports, and proposals; presents findings to stakeholders.
