Job summary

Berkley Industrial Comp is seeking an Associate Underwriter in its underwriting department, focusing on workers’ compensation insurance and renewal outcomes. This role offers exposure to all facets of underwriting and claims handling within a collaborative team.

The position emphasizes managing large claims, collaboration with underwriters and clients, and maintaining professional licenses across jurisdictions while contributing to a robust benefits package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, business, nursing or insurance OR equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years’ minimum of experience adjusting workers’ compensation claims; 10 years’ experience preferred.
• Maintain a professional adjusting license in all applicable jurisdictions or obtain within one year of job acceptance.
• Strong interpersonal, analytical, and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee lost time and medical claims across multiple jurisdictions up to $250,000 in exposure, including investigation, evaluation and resolution.
• Interface with underwriting, risk management, case management, clients and vendors to control costs and loss ratios and provide claimant care.
• Provide leadership within the claims department.
