Job summary

Berkley Southeast Insurance Group (BSIG), part of W. R. Berkley Corporation, is seeking a Senior Claims Specialist in Georgia.

The role handles commercial general liability claims from fast-track to complex matters, with emphasis on coverage analysis, investigation, negotiation, and resolution. The successful candidate will have 5+ years of casualty claim experience, strong communication and analytical skills, and state adjuster licenses (or ability to obtain within 90 days).

Qualifications

• Min of 5 years of casualty claim experience preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and presentation skills.
• Computer proficiency, working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
• Knowledge of tort and contract law and experience in auditing casualty claim files.
• Independent adjusters licenses for AL, GA, MS, NC, SC & TN and/or ability to obtain licenses within 90 days of hire.
• BA/BS degree preferred or equivalent work experience.

Responsibilities

• Review new losses and manage claims through coverage analysis, investigation, damages evaluation, reserving and resolution on non-litigated casualty claims.
• Manage bodily injury claims, auto material damage claims and total loss claims; include vehicle appraisal procedures and subrogation demands.
• Establish timely and accurate claim and expense reserves; negotiate settlements within authority limits.
• Participate in regional round table meetings as needed; write Reservation of Rights and Coverage Denial letters and other complex correspondence.
• Maintain an effective diary system and document claim file activities per procedures.
• Handle files in compliance with state regulations; provide excellent customer service to insureds and agents.

Responsibilities

The Senior Claims Specialist is responsible for the quality handling, investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and resolution of commercial general liability claims, ranging from fast-track to litigated matters. This position manages claims involving coverage issues, minor to severe injuries and property damage, contractual liability exposures, and other moderately complex to complex matters requiring specialized claim handling. The role is expected to provide exceptional customer service while achieving timely resolution and maintaining effective expense management.

• Review new losses and appropriately manage claims through coverage analysis, investigation, damages evaluation, reserving and resolution on non-litigated casualty claims.
• Manage bodily injury claims, auto material damage claims and total loss claims process. Includes vehicle appraisal procedures, diminished value, vendor networks, subrogation demands, salvage procedures and heavy equipment appraisals.
• Establish timely and accurate claim and expense reserves.
• Negotiate and convey claim settlements within authority limits.
• Participate in regional round table meetings as needed.
• Write Reservation of Rights and Coverage Denial letters and other complex correspondence.
• Maintain an effective dairy system and document claim file activities in accordance with established procedures.
• Manage file inventory to ensure timely resolution of cases.
• Handle files in compliance with state regulations.
• Provide excellent customer service to meet the needs of the insured, agent and all other internal and external customers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Remote work may be considered for highly qualified candidates who do not reside within commuting distance of a Berkley Southeast office.
