Berkley Southeast Insurance Group (BSIG), a member company of W. R. Berkley Corporation, seeks a Senior Claims Specialist to handle complex liability claims with exposure over $500,000 in a timely, professional manner.

Remote work may be considered for highly qualified candidates outside commuting distance of Lawrenceville, GA. Responsibilities include litigated claims management, reserve setting, negotiation, and coordination with panel counsel.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience handling significant litigation claims with exposure of $500,000 or more.
• Identify and address coverage issues, complete investigations to determine exposure, set timely reserves and develop detailed action plans.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Excellent negotiation, time management, and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of tort and contract law.
• Effective presentation skills.
• Self-directed with the ability to work independently under limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Manage litigated and other complex or high exposure claims through coverage analysis, investigation, damage evaluation, reserving, and resolution.
• Develop positive relationships with panel counsel and collaborate on cost-efficient litigation strategies.
• Prepare and present large loss reports.
• Establish timely and accurate claim and expense reserves.
• Negotiate and convey settlements within authority limits.
• Attend mediations and trials.
• Write denial letters and other complex correspondence.
• Maintain a diary system and document claim file activities.
• Manage file inventory to ensure timely resolution of cases.
• Ensure files comply with state regulations.
• Provide excellent customer service to insured, agents and others.
• Perform administrative duties as required.

Responsibilities

The Sr. Claims Specialist is a Subject Matter Expert responsible for the quality handling and resolution of complex, high exposure liability claims in a timely and professional manner with emphasis on providing quality service while controlling expenses. This position routinely handles claims involving complex coverage issues, catastrophic bodily injuries, personal and advertising injuries and employment practices liability. Exposures are routinely reserved greater than $500,000.

Key functions include but are not limited to the following:

• Appropriately manage litigated and other complex or high exposure claims through coverage analysis, investigation, damage evaluation, reserving, and resolution.
• Develop positive business relationships with panel counsel and work with them closely to develop cost efficient approaches to the litigation process and develop action plans to manage cases to early conclusion.
• Prepare and present large loss reports.
• Establish timely and accurate claim and expense reserves.
• Negotiate and convey claim settlements within authority limits.
• Attend mediations and trials.
• Write denial letters, Reservation of Rights and other complex correspondence.
• Maintain an effective diary system and document claim file activities in accordance with established procedures.
• Manage file inventory to ensure timely resolution of cases.
• Handle files in compliance with state regulations.
• Provide excellent customer service to meet the needs of the insured, agent and all other internal and external customers.
• Perform administrative functions such as document preparation, expense accounts, time off reporting, etc. as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Remote work may be considered for highly qualified candidates who do not reside within commuting distance of a Berkley Southeast office in Lawrenceville, GA, Charlotte NC, Nashville, TN, Birmingham, AL or Meridian, MS.

In addition, remote consideration will also be given to candidates who reside in Louisiana, Florida, Virgina, Arkansas and Kentucky

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• Proven ability to identify and address coverage issues, complete investigations to determine exposure, set timely reserves and develop detailed action plans.

• Knowledge of tort and contract law.
• Effective presentation skills.
• Working knowledge of legal billing software, claim systems, spreadsheet and word processing software applications.
• Self-directed with the ability to work independently under limited supervision.
• Adjusters’ licenses for states of: AL, GA, MS, NC, SC & TN and/or ability to obtain within (90) days of hire.
