Job summary

Great American Insurance Group is seeking a Senior Claims Attorney to work from Schaumburg, IL or Chicago, IL. This hybrid role combines 3 days in-office and 2 days remote, with a focus on detailed claim analysis within our Executive Liability Division.

Applicants must hold an active JD/LLM and a license, plus 10+ years of legal or claims experience in litigation, insurance coverage, or related areas. Competitive benefits included.

Qualifications

• LLM (Master of Law) or JD (Juris Doctorate) and current attorney license required.
• Generally, a minimum of 10 years of legal or claims experience.
• Experience in the areas of litigation, insurance coverage, employment practices, or claims adjusting would be a plus.
• Detail oriented, organized and possess strong analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs detailed analysis of each claim.
• Evaluates coverage and liability and monitors the file toward resolution.
• Develops and implements claim litigation and resolution strategies.
• Provides information to underwriters and reinsurers on claims and trends.
• Secures and analyzes information in the investigation of claims.
• Attends arbitrations or mediations as necessary.
• May affect settlements or reserves within prescribed limits.
• Ensures that claims payments are issued timely and accurately.
• Ensures compliance with statutes, regulations, and company procedures.
• May provide technical advice to other functional areas.

The Executive Liability Division is searching for a Senior Claims Attorney depending on background and experience. The person hired for this position will work from the Schaumburg, IL or Chicago, IL office. Great American’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities

• Performs detailed analysis of each claim.
• Evaluates coverage and liability, issues written coverage opinions and monitors all aspects of the file while working toward resolution of the claim; including hiring, monitoring and paying defense counsel.
• Develops and implements claim litigation and resolution strategies.
• Provides information to underwriters and reinsurers on specific claims or insureds and legal trends and issues which affect the business.
• Secures and analyzes necessary information (i.e., reports, policies, appraisals, releases, statements, records, or other documents) in the investigation of claims.
• Attends arbitrations or mediations as necessary.
• May affect settlements / reserves within prescribed limits and submit recommendations where applicable.
• Ensures that claims payments are issued in a timely and accurate manner.
• Ensures that claims handling is conducted in compliance with applicable statutes, regulations, and other legal requirements, and that all applicable company procedures and policies are followed.
• May provide technical advice to other functional areas.
• Other duties as assigned.
