Senior Claims Adjuster – Casualty
Location: Remote – Multi‑State (Hybrid only in Michigan). Employment Type: Full‑Time.
Key Responsibilities
- Review insurance policies to determine coverage.
- Investigate claims via telephone interviews and written correspondence with insureds, claimants, and witnesses.
- Review police reports, medical records, independent adjuster reports, appraiser reports, and other documentation to determine liability and damages.
- Review state and federal laws to identify potential defenses such as governmental immunity.
- Assign and supervise independent adjusters and appraisers for on‑site investigations.
- Assign defense counsel and manage litigation when necessary.
- Determine and monitor indemnity and expense reserves throughout the claim life cycle up to resolution/closure, in accordance with adjuster authority limits.
- Maintain claim files and documents in compliance with company policy and procedure.
- Seek approval for coverage or liability denials per company policy.
- Prepare internal large‑loss reports for executive circulation.
- Prepare loss reports for reinsurers per contract requirements.
- Collaborate with teammates, management, inter‑departmental units, agents, insureds, and others.
- Attend mediations, settlement conferences, and trials as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of progressive professional experience in insurance claims.
- Broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in claims handling.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
- Exceptional organizational and analytical skills; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Knowledgeable of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments related to applicable areas.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Adjuster’s license required.
