Job summary

Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) is seeking a Solid Waste Engineer (Project Manager) to lead landfill design and environmental infrastructure projects in Detroit, MI or Toledo, OH.

You’ll manage scope, budgets, schedules, and mentor junior staff while coordinating with regulators and clients. The ideal candidate has a PE license in MI or OH, 5+ years in civil or solid waste engineering, and hands-on experience with landfill systems, permitting, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Environmental Engineering required.
• 5+ years of experience in civil, geotechnical, or solid waste engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Michigan or Ohio required.
• Experience with landfill design, environmental systems, or geotechnical engineering preferred.
• Strong understanding of permitting and regulatory processes.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design software.
• Experience with modeling tools such as HELP, HydroCAD, Slide, or similar is a plus.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with clients and regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, design, and delivery of landfill and solid waste infrastructure projects.
• Prepare and review permit applications, technical reports, and engineering documentation.
• Perform and oversee engineering analyses including airspace evaluations, soil balance, slope stability, settlement, and stormwater management.
• Lead the design of landfill systems, including liner systems, leachate collection, stormwater systems, and landfill gas collection systems.
• Manage Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) projects for landfill cell construction, caps, and environmental control systems.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies and support permitting and compliance efforts.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables to ensure successful project execution.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical staff.
• Collaborate with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
