Job summary

The Roger Baldwin Foundation of the ACLU of Illinois seeks a Senior Supervising Attorney to build and lead litigation efforts and to work on non-litigation advocacy to drive transformational changes across our program areas.

Based in Chicago with a hybrid in-office/remote schedule, the role emphasizes collaborative leadership, supervising attorneys, engaging with government and public education, and representing the organization as a spokesperson.

Qualifications

• Have a J.D. and be admitted to practice in Illinois, or be willing to waive into the Illinois bar.
• Have at least 10 years of litigation experience in state and/or federal venues.
• Demonstrated ability to conceive and litigate cases to conclusion with strong evidence handling.
• Excellent persuasive writing for court filings and communications.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders in legal and non-legal settings.
• Willingness to travel throughout Illinois and work flexible hours as needed.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, develop, and advance high-impact cases in trial and appellate courts.
• Develop and advance non-litigation strategies with other departments.
• Maintain collaborative relationships with cooperating counsel, allied groups, and communities affected by work.
• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate attorneys; delegate day-to-day work.
• Act as an ACLU-IL spokesperson with media and external partners on identified issues.
