Job summary

GFT in Berkeley, CA seeks a Senior Project Manager / Principal Engineer (Civil) to lead diverse civil projects across planning, design, and construction. This hybrid role blends client coordination, technical leadership, and hands-on production, with focus on resilient transportation infrastructure.

The ideal candidate has 15+ years of experience, a PE license, and proficiency with Civil 3D, MicroStation, AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Organizes and develops project team to execute specific phases or aspects of a project, including technical studies, design, specs, and inspections; able to delegate.
• Technical Lead – develop conceptual designs and construction docs using Microstation, Geopak, OpenRoads and AutoCAD/Civil 3D.
• Supervise junior staff and contribute hands-on to deliverables.
• Manage project scope, manpower estimates, schedules, and progress tracking.
• Coordinate with in-house and external consultants.
• Review designs for compliance with engineering principles, standards, and client requirements.
• Ensure adherence to QA/QC guidelines.
• Train and mentor junior staff.

In this capacity, the successful candidate willbe responsible forthe following:

• Organizes and develops projectteamto execute specific phases or aspects ofprojectsuch as technical studies, project design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and project inspection. Must be able to delegate.

• Technical Lead - Preparation of conceptual design and construction documents usingMicrostation/Geopak/OpenRoadsand AutoCAD/Civil 3D, and preparation of investigative design reports and studies.

• Supervise the work of junior staff as well asmaintaina hands-on role in the production of deliverables.

• Shows understanding of project team management, develops project scope of work, estimatingmanpowerneeds, prepare project schedules, and tracks project progress.

• Project coordination with in-house engineering, architects, environmental/planning and outside consultants.

• Reviews project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.

• Assures the project meets quality control and quality assurance guidelines.

• Trains/Mentors junior staff.

Education | Experience:

What you bring to our firm:

• At least15years of professional experience on a diverse range of projects.

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineeringrequired.

• Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer.

• Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, and various engineering software systems

• AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.

• Strong work ethic and the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced setting

• Experience/interest in mentoring, supervisorroleand/or team leader role

• Experience with federal projects is a plus.

• Experience with railroad CAD standards (UPRR, BNSF, etc.) is a plus.

Compensation:

The Salary range for this position is $156,000-$210,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
