Job summary

HDR is seeking a Chief Inspector to lead field observations on civil infrastructure projects across Orange, Ulster, and Dutchess Counties in New York. The role includes reading drawings, flagging discrepancies, mentoring junior inspectors, and collaborating with project managers to maintain quality and safety on site.

A strong written communicator who can work independently and within HDR’s employee-owned culture is essential.

Qualifications

• Requires HS diploma or equivalent; substitution with 8 years of relevant construction inspection experience allowed.
• Minimum 5 years of inspection experience in construction projects.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook).
• Strong written communication and ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and document observations of construction progress for civil projects (roads, bridges).
• Mentor junior field staff and provide supervision as needed.
• Read and interpret construction drawings and specs; identify discrepancies.
• Identify nonconforming work and develop punchlists until corrected.
• Serve as senior inspector on projects when needed.
