Job summary

Salt Lake City Corporation is seeking an experienced Engineer V to supervise and manage city projects and engineering programs. This highly technical role requires a PE license and a broad civil engineering background, with leadership responsibilities over a team and external consultants.

The position offers a strong salary range in the City’s public utilities division and a comprehensive benefits package including health, retirement contributions, and tuition reimbursement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or equivalent with eight years civil engineering experience and two years supervisory experience.
• Professional Engineer license from Utah; out-of-state PE must become Utah PE within six months of employment.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to lead, develop and support team members, interface with contractors and the public.
• Membership in ASCE or equivalent professional organization.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and supervises the planning, design and construction of major engineering projects.
• Assigns work of subordinates.
• Resolves personnel problems and has authority to hire and fire.
• Provides in-house engineering reviews and supervises external reviews.
• Assists with selection of consultants and defines project scopes and parameters.
• Approves work done by consultants and reviews complex plans for standards compliance.
• Develops budgets, scopes, schedules and phasing for projects.
• Represents Salt Lake City Corporation on ad-hoc committees and boards.
